An interesting observation on hat shapes for an Henrician bonnet. When you try to take this particular pattern (based on old Simplicity bonnet pattern), and shape the lower circle where the head goes into an oval shape front to back to better fit the head, the sides flatten a bit, making it look closer to the original painting of Henry ( Read more... )

I am so very tired, and my throat is still sore with coughing. But I managed to sew up the upper cap of the Henrician bonnet, and mark where I will pleat it together. I am letting the heavy buckram sit under some books to remove the curl to it. I hope it will work. I don't want to have to mist it to make it behave.

After a few days trying to get over this nasty cold, I tried to get back into things by cutting out the materials for the Henrician bonnet. That was tiring, very tiring. I now have chills again, and need to go lay down for a bit before starting dinner. At least it is cut out and ready for when the jewels arrive, and this weekend's fitting before it ( Read more... )

So, not feeling well I've been lying around a lot today, and am now feeling antsy. So I took some photos of my client's doublet and jacket bodies (meaning just the top halves) that are mostly done, at least enough to see what I've been busy with.

Just wanted to take a small break to note my current progress on the Tudor outfit. I would be going a bit faster but with Rob gone, I don't have the early evenings to work on things, which loses time. Also, Cam is taking shorter naps so less time there as well ( Read more... )

I really like the cord that finally arrived. It's a beautiful, brilliant, multi-stranded gold cord, 3mm size, so it makes a bold statement on the doublet where I am placing it. I am putting it in pairs, with a space between, vertically down the fronts about 2" apart between sets. There will be short puffs of linen in between each pair of cords. I ( Read more... )

My client is getting the really nices gold-plated ouches from England to use on his outfit! Oye, that's going to be some nice bling.

I've cut out his skirts, ordered the dye for his skirt lining (just thought of that last night), and still awaiting the cord arrival, so back to work on skirts and later the hat.

I'm working on a clients project when I realized I haven't written much about it in my LJ. I am only taking time here to explain this, because I've done all the trim sewing I can do right now, am waiting for the cording to show up sometime this week, and the next trim part will be the trim sewing on the skirt lengths, which I really can't do much ( Read more... )
